God’s Purpose of Grace - Monday get_app

Published: July 13, 2020

This week, we will be looking at God’s purpose of grace, beginning with election. In its section on this subject, The Baptist Faith & Message states,

“Election is the gracious purpose of God, according to which He regenerates, justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies sinners.”

This statement builds on last week’s study on salvation, where we walked through each of these aspects of salvation and saw that the Bible attributes all of salvation to God alone (feel free to look back at the first four days especially).

Read John 6:44, John 6:65; Ephesians 2:4-5; and 1 Peter 2:9.

  • As you read these passages, be reminded of God’s gracious election in salvation.

Read Ephesians 1:3-6.

  • According to this passage, who chose and predestined those who would be adopted as sons, holy and blameless before God?
(God did; verse 5 even says it is all “according to the purpose of his will”)
  • According to this passage, when did this election occur?
(before the foundation of the world)
  • What is the ultimate purpose of God being the sole agent of our salvation through his gracious election of us, his people?
    (v. 6; it is that God would receive praise; in other words, to bring God glory)

Close in prayer, praising God for his glorious grace that accomplishes salvation for his people.
