Sanctification - Wednesday get_app

Published: July 8, 2020

The Baptist Faith and Message defines sanctification in this way:

“Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God’s purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit within him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the regenerate person’s life.”

Read Hebrews 9:11-14.

  • What does the author of Hebrews tell us that Christ did for us in verse 12?
  • According to verse 13, what did the blood of bulls and goats and the sprinkling of a defiled person with the ashes of a heifer accomplish for the people of God under the old covenant?
(sanctification for the purification of the flesh)
  • What does verse 14 say that the blood of Christ does for those who are in Christ under the new covenant?
(purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God)
  • So according to this verse, who or what accomplishes our sanctification?
    (the blood of Christ)

Read Colossians 3:1-3.

How are you doing at setting your mind on the things that are above? If there is a temptation to let the affairs of this world consume you, the answer is not to try harder but to focus on Christ.

Colossians 3:23 tells us: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” As we grow in sanctification, we ought to be growing in righteousness to be used in a greater capacity for the Lord.

Close in prayer.
