The Holy Spirit also works in pointing people to the Savior, Jesus Christ, and regenerating hearts.

Read John 15:26.

  • Who is the Helper being sent?
(the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth)
  • Who is speaking in this passage?
    (Jesus)
  • What does Jesus say the Holy Spirit will do?
    (bear witness about Jesus)

The primary way the Spirit points people to the Savior is through the Scriptures as he gives understanding of the Scriptures, which he inspired.

Read 1 John 5:5-12.

  • According to verse 5, who are those who overcome the world?
    (Those who believe in Jesus)
  • According to verse 6, who testifies about Jesus?
    (The Holy Spirit)
  • According to verses 11-12, what is the testimony given?
(that God gave eternal life through his Son – Jesus; and those who have Jesus have eternal life)

In Scripture we see regeneration language all over. It’s the language of new hearts, new life, being born again. This work of regeneration is attributed to the Holy Spirit.

Read John 3:1-8.

  • What does Jesus say must occur for someone to see the kingdom of God?
(He must be born again; regenerated)
  • According to verses 6-8, how is someone born spiritually (born again)?
(by the Spirit, who does this work as he wishes, like the wind that blows where it wishes)

Read John 6:63 and Titus 3:4-7, then close in prayer, thanking God for the Spirit’s work of pointing us to Jesus and regenerating our hearts that we might believe the testimony of Jesus and receive the hope of eternal life in him.
